Gujarat recorded 12,911 coronavirus cases – a drop of 12% from yesterday’s tally of 14,789 – and 22 deaths in the last 24 hours. With 21 Covid-19 fatalities, the cumulative number of deaths climbed to 10,345 in Gujarat, the state health department said in a release.
The 22 people who succumbed to the infection were from Ahmedabad (7), Vadodara (2), Rajkot (3), Surat (2), Mehsana (2), Bharuch (2), Valsad (1), Bhavnagar (2), and Navsari (1). Besides 22 deaths, as many as 304 Covid-positive patients are on ventilator support in Gujarat.
With today’s update of daily cases, the state’s active cases tally stood at 1,17,884.
Ahmedabad city remained the biggest contributor with 4,405 cases. Other major contributors include Vadodara (1,871), Rajkot (1,008), and Surat (708).
Scenario Across India
India’s daily Covid graph showed a marginal increase as the country recorded 2.86 lakh cases today. This is the third consecutive day that the country has reported below three lakh cases.
The active cases now comprise 5.46% of the total infections, while the national coronavirus recovery rate has decreased to 93.33%. The daily positivity rate – the share of coronavirus tests that return positive and considered a key marker of the pandemic’s status – is up from 16.10% to 19.59% while the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 17.75 per cent.
India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has crossed 163.84 crore dose. At least 72% of India’s adult population is fully vaccinated whereas around 52 per cent of children in the 15-18 years old age group have been inoculated with the first dose of Covid vaccine.
In today’s press briefing, the Union Health Ministry stated that in India, 11 states have over 50,000 active Covid cases. Gujarat is one of these states. Meawhile, 59% of adolescents in 15-18 year age group in India have received 1st dose of Covid-19 vaccine so far, the Union Health Ministry informed.
In other news, the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) granted regular market approval for Covid-19 vaccines — Covishield and Covaxin — for use in the adult population subject to certain conditions, PTI reported.
