Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation on Tuesday added 15 more Covid-19 Micro Containment Zones in the city while removing 19 such zones from the list. With today’s update, there are a total of 188 active zones.
As many as 104 houses with a population of 527 were declared as Micro Containment Zones on Tuesday, the AMC informed Vibes of India (VOI).
The corporation identifies zones in areas that are seemingly Covid hotspots due to a large number of cases being recorded there and imposes restrictions to curb the further spread of the virus. The southwest zone saw as many as seven new containment zones declared on Tuesday whereas four new containment zones were declared in the northwest zone.
The drive of identifying zones was started again in November, as the city began to see an uptick in coronavirus cases. The drive has now gained more steam with the surge of cases brought on by the Omicron variant. The practice of identifying these zones was discontinued in May last year.
Important to note here is that, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation on Monday added 21 more Covid-19 Zones in the City while removing 15 such zones from the list. There were a total of 192 active micro containment zones till Monday.
