Ahmedabad, January 20, 2024: In a significant boost to girl child education, 96 schools in Ahmedabad city will receive grants totaling Rs. 2.23 crore from the state education department. This funding aims to empower schools and incentivize them to provide quality education and support to girl students.
The grants vary based on the schools’ chosen program. Those opting for the maintenance grant scheme receive Rs. 50-230 per girl student, while those who choose the higher fees option, relinquishing the maintenance grant, receive Rs. 720-1300 per girl student.
This initiative is part of a broader program launched in 2017-18 to promote girl child education in the state. By providing financial support and encouraging innovative approaches, the government aims to bridge the gender gap in education and empower girls to reach their full potential.
With this initiative, Ahmedabad takes a positive step towards ensuring equitable access to education for all children, regardless of their gender. The success of this program could pave the way for similar initiatives across the state, ultimately contributing to a more educated and empowered future for girls in India.
