The Local Crime Branch of Gujarat’s Dahod district took over probe into seizure of opium worth Rs 26 lakh. The LCB has nabbed a truck driver from Rajasthan who was carrying a quantity of opium worth more than Rs 26 lakh.
Many cases of smuggling of liquor from the border area are coming up in the state. Despite the ban on alcohol in Gujarat, illegal liquor and other narcotics are being smuggled in from time to time.
Shivram Bhadu, a truck driver from Rajasthan, was coming to Gujarat carrying an estimated 876 kg of opium under the guise of vegetables. LCB, meanwhile, set a trap following a tip-off and seized a large quantity of opium. A quantity of opium was being brought to the state in a Rajasthan Parsing truck at Bhatwada Tolnaka. The Dahod LCB was on high alert as soon as it was reported that the quantity was being loaded with vegetables and the accused along with the truck driver was also speeding.
The matter is still under investigation.
