As the festive season of Diwali approaches, bootleggers continue to find new ways to sneak booze into the state to increase liquor sales.
Gandhinagar Local Crime Branch has arrested one such bootlegger who tried new alchemy to slyly sneak in alcohol to Gujarat. The accused had used a tactic to evade the police by hiding the liquor bottles in an Amul tanker. As many as 7668 bottles of foreign liquor have been seized from the tanker.
Based on the information, the police were on patrol when the Amul milk tanker, which was speeding near Sonipur in Gandhinagar, was stopped and checked. On checking the tanker, the police were also taken aback by seeing 7668 bottles of foreign liquor from the milk tanker.
LCB PI JH Sindhav and his team were on patrol on Gandhinagar’s Pethapur road when they came across a report that liquor was being smuggled in an Amul milk tanker. The driver of the tanker had beaten up the police and fled.
On the other hand, the driver Kalpesh Vaghela, who was piloting in the car in front of the tanker to ensure that the quantity of liquor in the Amul milk tanker reaches Ahmedabad safely, has been caught.
During interrogation, Kalpesh told the police that the liquor was ordered from Rajasthan by Sonu Sindhi – an Ahmedabad-based bootlegger.
Although there is a ban on alcohol in Gandhi’s Gujarat, the bootlegging of alcohol continues to take place in the city from time to time. And the police have more often than not turned a blind eye to these bootleggers.
