The coastal city Bhavnagar of Gujarat’s Saurashtra region is again in the spotlight. The city is hosting the 72nd West Senior National Basketball Championship 2022.
The event commenced on Tuesday, September 13th and will conclude on 16th of this month. The Basketball sport is believed to be immensely popular in the city of Bhavnagar.
At the city’s Sports Complex, participants from nearly six states- Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Goa flocked to the event to compete against each other in both the men and women categories.
On September 13th, six matches were played between the specified teams.
Under the men’s category, Gujarat competed against Goa; Chhattisgarh had a tough battle against Maharashtra; Madhya Pradesh & Rajasthan fought fiercely against each other; and Gujarat & Chhattisgarh had a dead fight to win the spot.
Meanwhile, under the women’s category, the match between the states of Maharashtra & Madhya Pradesh stole the heart of the audience. Whereas the match played between Gujarat & Chhattisgarh was initially thought to be one-sided, but both the teams played in good spirit to make it remarkable.
The first match started at 8:00 am between Gujarat & Goa under men’s category. Goa beat Gujarat with a tight score of 73-54.
Women also gave a tough competition while battling against each other during the second match played between Madhya Pradesh & Maharashtra. With a score of 77 against 72, Madhya Pradesh won the match.
The third match that took place between Chhattisgarh & Maharashtra was entertaining. Maharashtra defeated Chhattisgarh scoring 71 against 66.
In the fourth match, Madhya Pradesh beat Rajasthan, scoring 92 against its rival, who scored 84.
The last match was played between Gujarat & Chhattisgarh. Chhattisgarh lost it by scoring just 47 against Gujarat’s 109.
Though men from Chhattisgarh didn’t win against their counterpart, the women players with their extreme enthusiasm and strength won the match against Gujarat with a huge margin of 103 against 72.
The tournament has been organised by the Gujarat State Basketball Association.
