675 out of 1655 Cheating Students Allowed to Pass

| Updated: July 14, 2022 13:10

Students at two Gujarat exam centers, Pipero and Dasa were a part of a mass copying episode in which all 1655 of them took the same essay as their topic. Astonishingly, 675 of these 1655 were allowed to pass. 980, on the other hand, have been reported for copying their answers. A resource says that 980 students had copied 90-100% of the template, while the others had only copied a few paragraphs. This is the distinguishing feature that allowed some students to pass and not the others in the 12-grade examination.

This decision by the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board has been receiving objections because there was clearly enough evidence that all students had copied the same Gujarati essay. The name of the essay was “Vasant no Vaibhav” or Glory of Spring. Many of the students had written a couplet from Manjoj Khaderia’s poem.

The squad of GSHSEB had flagged the case in April end. During May, a team of 30 teachers had sincerely scanned all the answer sheets of these 1,665 students where they found similar sets of paragraphs of the Gujarati essay in all the student’s sheets

The second panel’s ruling said only 980 to be punished.

Each and every student was asked to come before a panel which was headed by the district education officer. Then the answer sheets were sent to the exam reforms committee in Gandhinagar, to which the committee gave the verdict that all 1,655 had cheated. Usually, the sheets are never sent to another teacher’s panel after the committee’s decision but in this case they were shared the education department. The teacher’s panel then decided that only 980 students must be punished.
