The administration reported that they have so far evacuated roughly 37,800 people who live near the sea in eight districts of the state as Cyclone Biparjoy barrels towards the Kutch coast in Gujarat.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the strong storm would make landfall close to Jakhau port on the evening of June 15.
The “VSCS” (very severe cyclonic storm) BIPARJOY over the Arabian Sea proceeded north-northwestward and was centred at 2.30 IST on June 14th, roughly 280 km west-southwest of Jakhau port. To cross by the evening of June 15th as VSCS at Jakhau Port (Gujarat),’ the IMD stated in its most recent post.
37,794 residents who live along the coast have already been evacuated, according to a press release from the Gujarat government.
On Tuesday night, the state’s emergency operations centre was visited by the chief minister to assess the level of preparedness, according to the statement.
According to the IMD, the storm has ‘significant devastating potential’ and is most likely to affect the districts of Kutch, Devbhumi Dwarka, and Jamnagar.
An official stated, “The state government is seeking to evacuate those who live within 10 kilometres of the shore. One cyclone-related death has been reported thus far, the man said.
According to officials, evacuation efforts will resume on Wednesday.
On Thursday evening (June 15), the storm is predicted to make landfall close to Jakhau port between Mandvi in Kutch and Karachi in Pakistan with sustained wind speeds of 125–135 kmph and gusts to 150 kmph.
The Saurashtra-Kutch region’s coastal areas, particularly in the districts of Kutch, Porbandar, and Devbhumi Dwarka, are expected to see unusually heavy rains and severe winds.
Biparjoy is predicted to continue moving in a north-easterly direction after making landfall and waning, eventually heading towards the far southern region of Rajasthan. Between June 15 and 17, it is predicted to bring heavy to very heavy rain to north Gujarat.
Fishing operations have been delayed until June 16 due to the region’s severe weather, which has included unusually heavy rain and strong gusts brought on by the storm that is approaching. Ports are closed, ships are anchored, and the sea has become choppy.
