The additional chief metropolitan magistrate’s court has acquitted three men who were arrested six years ago in the case of a jewellery and cash theft of Rs 11.30 lakh. The court said that the police could not prove charges against the three. The prosecution’s case was that the three had stolen the jewellery kept in the boot of the scooter using a duplicate key.
The complainant, Nilesh Soni, who has a jewellery shop in Ratanpol, filed a complaint at Bapunagar Police Station on June 27, 2016, saying he had kept cash and jewellery worth Rs 11.30 lakh in his scooter boot, which was missing when he checked upon reaching home.
The police arrested three men — Prateek alias Lagado Bajrangi, Siddharth alias Narsingh Indrekar, and Dhamu alias Dharmesh – all residents of Kuber Nagar.
In his observations, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate MA Makarni said that the complainant did receive his jewellery via court proceedings but he had no idea who committed the theft. The judge further said that the complainant did not wish to continue with the trial, and there was nothing to prove the three accused had committed the theft.
The three men also did not have any criminal record and were acquitted for the want of evidence.
