Two women were among the eight people killed the above morning when more than 30 people fell into a stepwell at an Indore temple.
The roof of the well had collapsed due to heavy footfall during Ram Navami celebrations at the Beleshwar Mahadev Jhulela temple in the Patel Nagar area. Several people, including women and children, are still trapped and many of them are hospitalised.
Local people and cops are rescuing the devotees who are trapped inside the well.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that “Extremely pained by the mishap in Indore. The State Government is spearheading rescue and relief work at a quick pace. My prayers with all those affected and their families.”
Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that he took cognisance of the incident and termed the incident “unfortunate”. He said that 10 people had been rescued so far while nine of them continue to remain trapped inside the stepwell.
