After more than seven years since Usain Bolt retired from track and field, the world has witnessed a glimpse of his exceptional speed in a 16-year-old Australian athlete.
Gout Gout, a rising star from Queensland, set a new national record with an impressive 200-meter sprint time of 20.04 seconds at the Australian school championships in Brisbane on Saturday, capturing the attention of the sporting world.
Bolt, the legendary sprinter who still holds the world records, reacted to Gout’s performance with admiration, posting on social media, “He looks like a young me.”
Reflecting on Bolt’s praise, Gout expressed his excitement to Australian media: “It’s been insane, and it hasn’t really sunk in yet. It probably won’t for a few months. The response has been crazy.”
The Grade XI student also impressed the crowd by running 10.04 seconds in the 100-meter heats the day before.
Gout’s family hails from South Sudan, having fled the war-torn country in search of a better life.
In addition to his record-breaking sprint, Gout signed a professional deal with Adidas and will soon head to Florida, USA, to train alongside Olympic champion Noah Lyles.
The sports world is eagerly watching Gout’s development, with hopes he will be a key contender in the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.
