A minor boy who was kidnapped in Surat on September 8, was found dead in the bushes at Umbhel village of Kamrej taluka two days after the incident.
Identified as Shivam, the 12-year-old son of driver Sudhirkumar Dulnarayan had gone to his tuition classes in the evening, when he was abducted in an autorickshaw in Kadodara area of the city.
Later in the night, the kidnapper called up Sudhir and sought a ransom of Rs15 lakh to release him. However, as the family could not pay the amount, the child was murdered and the body dumped in the bushes a day later.
The father, ignoring the diktats of the kidnappers, had lodged an FIR with Kadodara GIDC police, reporting that his son, a Class 5 student of Vidyabharati School in Srinivas Society in Kadodara, had not returned home from his tuition class in Krishnanagar.
LCB, SOG, range teams conducted a search operation and interrogated the suspects, but could not rescue the victim.
The police nabbed one accused, Umang Vijay Gohil, even as four more persons allegedly involved in the crime were absconding. The victim and the accused were known to each other, said Rural Surat SP Hitesh Joysar.
Police said the boy was strangled by the accused.
Surat district police said it had formed 10 teams under the supervision of Surat range IG V Chandrashekhar to locate the missing boy but failed to do so in time.
According to sources, two brothers, Sonu and Monu, who live in the victim’s neighbourhood, are also involved in the crime. They are murder-accused out on bail.
According to case details, the boy attended noon school from 11 am to 5 pm, and after that went for tuition at Rajnishkumar’s house in Krishnanagar between 5.30 pm and 7.30 pm.
