With Dr. Renu Raj – AIR 2nd in CSE 2015 being all set to take over the charge as a District Collector of Alappuzha from March 2, the top administration of Kerala will have a majority of female representation for the first time in the history of the state.
India has always seen less female representation in key fields like politics, defence, civil services and others. In an exceptional feat in the country, 10 out of the total 14 districts of Kerala will be administered by women, which is roughly around two-thirds of the state’s administration. Notably, Kerala has a 33 per cent reservation for women in the state assembly, although the administrative services will now have a 71.4 per cent women representation.
Currently, the women district collectors of the other nine districts of Kerala are Divya Iyer (Pathanamthitta), Afsana Parveen (Kollam), Dr. A Geetha (Wayanad), Bhandari Swagat Ranveerchand (Kasargod), Sheeba George (Idukku), Dr PK Jayasree (Kottayam), Mrunmayee Joshi (Palakkad), Haritha V Kumar (Thrissuer) and Navjot Khosa (Thiruvananthapuram).
Dr. Renu Raj will succeed A Alexender for the post of Alappuzha District Collector. She was posted as the sub-collector of Devikulam before this maiden post of her as a district collector.
